On the directions of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Harsimranjit Singh, the Ludhiana police have indicted renowned legislator Simarjit Singh Bains under rape charges along with six others namely Gogi Sharma (Personal Assistant of Bains), Kulwant Singh, Sukhchain Singh, Paramjit Singh, Jasbir Kaur (sister-in-law of Bains) and Baljinder Kaur.
An FIR under sections 376 (Rape), 354 (Making Sexual Advances), 354-A (Assault), 506 (Criminal Intimidation), and 120-B (Criminal Conspiracy) of the IPC has been registered in Ludhiana.
It is pertinent to note here that the local Akali leadership of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has played a vital role in getting Bains indicted in this case. Scores of Akali workers have been staging protests outside Police Commissioner’s office while seeking action against Bains.
The activists of SAD (Badal) also accused the ruling Congress of colluding with Bains to save him from police action.
Although the SAD (Badal) activists have succeeded in getting Bains indicted under rape charges but he has not been arrested so far.
