During the evening hours on July 7, the statue of Rajiv Gandhi in the Salem Tabri area of Ludhiana was set ablaze. The incident came to the notice of bystanders when they saw the statue engulfed in flames.
It is learned that the bystanders and other people living in the vicinity of this area succeeded in controlling the fire immediately.
On getting informed about this incident, district Congress leaders including Ashwani Sharma, Gursimran Mand, Yogesh Handa and immediately rushed to the spot and lodged a complaint to the police in this concern.
Interestingly, turbaned Congress leader Gursimran Mand used his turban to clean the burnt statue of Rajiv Gandhi which had turned black.
It is pertinent to note here that Gursimran Mand had earlier also drawn sharp flak among Sikh masses when he had used his turban to clean the blackened statue of Rajiv Gandhi in Ludhiana.
The former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi is considered responsible for the genocide of Sikhs carried out in Delhi following Indira Gandhi’s assassination in 1984.
During the 1984 Sikh genocide, assailant Hindu mobs were given a free hand for about 72 hours to ruthlessly kill innocent Sikhs. All the state machinery including the police had turned inactive for these 72 hours.
Later, Rajiv Gandhi had justified this genocide of Sikhs by saying that the earth was bound to shake whenever a big tree falls.
Even after almost four decades of this genocide, the victims have not been delivered justice and the perpetrators of this genocide like Jagdish Tytler, Kamal Nath etc. are still roaming freely.
