No decision on Deep Sidhu’s Bail As The Court Closes for the Weekend

Deep Sidhu in court in New Delhi

The decision on Deep Sidhu’s bail has again been deferred as the Tis Hazari court again closed on Friday with the judge not announcing a decision.

Deep Sidhu was arrested by a special cell of the Delhi police in the case of alleged violence at the Red Fort Complex on India’s republic day. Additional Sessions Judge Neelofer Abida Parveen, hearing the case, said that the verdict was preserved by writing.

During the hearing of the case, Delhi Police counsel said that Sidhu had participated in the tractor rally to commit violence and insult the national flag.

“It was Sidhu who instigated the farmers present in the rally and carried out the incident of violence in the Red Fort complex. If Sidhu is released, there will be a danger of destruction of evidence,” the Delhi police counsel argued.

An excerpt from one of Sidhu’s speeches was cited in the court, in which Sidhu had claimed that the farmers would not follow the prescribed route. Sidhu’s counsel, however, refuted the claims and said Deep had not taken part in any violent activities at the Red Fort.
