Exclusive Video: “If Ugrahan hadn’t disowned us, our indictment may have been averted,” says farmer held on Jan 26

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—In an exclusive interview with Sikh24, a Moga-based farmer activist Amritpal Singh has revealed that the Joginder Singh Ugrahan led farmer body had turned a blind eye towards the farmers arrested by Delhi police on January 26. Notably, Amritpal Singh has come out on bail after enduring 36 days of imprisonment in Tihar jail after getting arrested.

It is noteworthy that 10 other farmers of Amritpal Singh’s village Tatariye Wala (Tehsil: Dharamkot, District: Moga), were also indicted by the Delhi police in the FIRs about January 26’s incident. All of them were taken into custody by the Delhi police when they searched for a route to return to their camps after January 26’s tractor parade.

“When our family members approached the activists of Joginder Singh Ugrahan group, they didn’t behave appropriately with them,” said Amritpal Singh.

“If Ugrahan didn’t disown us, our indictment would have been averted in the evening hours of January 27,” he stated.

“Our family members also approached Qadian group, but they also expressed helplessness to extend a helping hand besides offering financial aid,” he said.

Amritpal Singh has said that only Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) leaders Sukhbir Badal, Jathedar Tota Singh, and Manjinder Singh Sirsa stood behind them at that time and got them released on bails.
