Punjab-based BJP leader Harjit Grewal today wrote a letter to the SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur while expressing objection to SGPC’s announcement to provide every possible assistance the agitating farmers. In this letter, Grewal has specifically mentioned SGPC’s announcement to provide tin sheds and air coolers to the farmers protesting at Delhi borders.
Harjit Grewal has accused the SGPC of crossing its jurisdiction while claiming that the SGPC was trying to give religious color to the farmers’ agitation. “The prime role of the SGPC is to manage the affairs of the gurdwaras. Being a purely religious body, by getting involved in the farmers’ agitation, which comprises farmers from all religions and castes, the SGPC is going completely against the mandate given to it under ‘The Sikh Gurdwaras Act, 1925’ and ‘Punjab Act 8 of 1925’,” he said.
Replying to Harjit Grewal, SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur has said that Grewal’s statement as to why the SGPC is helping the farmers is an expression of his ignorance towards the Sikh ethos. “Grewal doesn’t know that Guru Sahib always gave priority to serve humanity and taught us to stand for the society,” she added.
“The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee is well aware of its rights and duties. Grewal should keep his advice to himself,” she replied to Grewal.
“Today, due to the arbitrary behavior of the BJP government, the farmers are on the brink of disaster. At such times, Harjit Grewal should stand with the farmers instead of questioning the organizations that help the farmers,” said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

Being a Sikh, BJP leader Grewal should not make such statements, and he should think before speaking. Grewal should highlight the anti-farmer policies of his party’s government,” she further said.
