Farmers Protest: After Disha Ravi, Nodeep Kaur Also Granted Bail

Today, the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted bail to Nodeep Kaur in the third FIR 25/2021. Nodeep was arrested on January 12 and allegedly abused in police custody. She had been awaiting bail in the third and the last case filed against her.

Nodeep’s legal team includes Harinder Singh Bains, RS Cheema, and Pawandeep Singh.

Nodeep’s case reached the limelight after Meena Harris, niece of US vice president Kamala Harris tweeted in her support multiple today. Just shortly after Nodeep was granted bail, Meena tweeted – “Nodeep Kaur and Disha Ravi, young female activists jailed for supporting the farmer protests in India, were granted bail. I want to believe it’s in part because so many people spoke out against the government’s silencing dissent. Please stay loud — this fight is far from over.

In addition to Meena, several other prominent personalities also raised awareness of Nodeep’s plight. Gurrattan Singh, brother of Canada’s NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, said, “I rose in the Ontario Legislature to bring awareness to the unjust imprisonment of Nodeep Kaur and the violence she has faced at the hands of police while in custody.”

Nodeep’s family claimed in her bail plea that she was severely beaten and abused at a police station after her arrest.

Many other activists who took part in the farmers’ protest remain lodged across various police stations in Delhi, including Mohinder Singh Khalsa, Ranjit Singh, and Deep Sidhu.
