CHANDIGARH, Punjab—On February 15, the apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee installed the portrait of Shaheed Bhai Lachhman Singh in the central Sikh museum. Notably, Shaheed Bhai Lachhman Singh had attained martyrdom while battling for Gurdwara Janam Asthan Sri Nankana Sahib’s liberation from Mahant Narayan’s occupation during the Gurdwara Reform Movement.
In a customary religious event held on February 15, SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, Sri Darbar Sahib’s head granthi Giani Jagtar Singh, and SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur unveiled the portrait of Shaheed Bhai Lachhman Singh amid the presence of other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Giani Harpreet Singh hailed SGPC’s decision to install Shaheed Bhai Lachhman Singh’s portrait in the central Sikh museum. He also paid homage to the martyrs of Saka Nankana.
Giani Jagtar Singh said that the central Sikh museum houses the history of Sikhs. “The pilgrims from all over the world grasp information about the great deeds of Sikhs from this museum,” he added.
Speaking on occasion, SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “The sacrifices made by the Sikhs during the Gurdwara Reform Movement to liberate Sri Nankana Sahib from the mahants are exemplary, most notably the name of Shaheed Bhai Lachhman Singh Dharowali. The martyrs of the Sikh kaum (community) are a source of inspiration for future generations, and the installation of a portrait of Shaheed Bhai Lachhman Singh in the Central Sikh Museum would give the sangat a sense of the spirit of the personalities who sacrificed their lives for the dignity of the shrines.”
SGPC’s honorary chief secretary, Advocate Harjinder Singh, also addressed the gathering on this occasion.
Meanwhile, a family member of Shaheed Bhai Lachhman Singh was honored with siropao (robe of honours).
Senior vice-president SGPC S. Surjit Singh Bhitewad, general secretary adv Bhagwant Singh Sialka and chief secretary adv Harjinder Singh, member Ajaib Singh Abhayasi, Hardeep Singh Mohali, S. Harpal Singh Jallah, S. Sukhdev Singh Bhurakohna, S. Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, S. Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, S. Harjinder Singh Kaironwal, Manager Mukhtar Singh Cheema, and other officials were also present on this occasion.
