SGPC to mint special coins to mark 400th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadar Sahib

Commemorative gold and silver coins will be minted by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to mark the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadar Sahib, the Ninth Sikh Guru, so that the sangat (masses) can preserve the memory of this historic centenary day forever.

This announcement was made by the SGPC president Bibi Jagir ‘Kaur’ while participating in the first seminar at the Trai Shatabdi Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College, Amritsar on Saturday, as part of a series of seminars dedicated to the 400th birth anniversary.

Addressing the seminar held in a congregational manner in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib, Bibi Jagir ‘Kaur’ said, “Ten different seminars would be conducted in the country dedicated to this 400th birth centenary of the ninth Guru Sahib and selective journals and papers read during these seminars would be collected in the form of a book.”

The SGPC president said, “The life history of the ninth Guru Sahib is a source of inspiration for the Sikhs as well as the people of the country and the world. Guru Sahib’s sacrifice set a shining precedent for keeping the culture of the country alive and established that forcible religious conversion is a grave sin. I appeal to the sangat of the country and the world to do their utmost efforts to connect their children with the history of Sikhism dedicated to the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Sahib.”

Presenting the keynote address during the seminar, former SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar said, “The martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji is of great importance in keeping the values of the righteousness alive. The life of Guru Sahib Ji and his holy Gurbani helped the people of the world to understand the tricks of living a better life. In Gurbani there is a solution to every big and small problem of the world, it just needs to be understood and considered.”

On this occasion, while reading his journal on the ideology of Guru Sahib, Dr Dharam Singh said, “Guru Sahib’s Bani embraces cosmic concerns and presents the idea of live and let live. The idea of neither fear nor intimidation is the possession of Guru Sahib’s Bani.”

Moreover, the director of education Dr Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal, Prof Ravinder Kaur and Bhai Manjodh Singh also presented their papers. Earlier, the principal of the college Dr Gagandeep Singh welcomed the dignitaries.
