Court rejects anticipatory bail plea of Saini, Umranangal in Behbal Kalan killing case

In a big jolt to former DGP Punjab Sumedh Saini and suspended IG Paramraj Umranangal, the local court today rejected their applications for the anticipatory bail in the case of Behbal Kalan Police firing that killed two Sikh youths taking part in the peaceful protest against the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib on October 14, 2015.  

Rejecting their pleas, the District and Sessions Judge of Faridkot refused to grant them the anticipatory bail. They are accused in a criminal case registered on October 21, 2015, under Sections 302, 307, 34, 201, 218, 166A, 120B, 34, 194, 195, 109 of IPC and 25, 27 of Arms Act at Bajakhana police station of Faridkot.

The protest was staged in the aftermath of sacrilege incidents at Bargari and Burj Jawahar Singh Wala.

IG Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh-led Special Investigation Team (SIT) filed a charge sheet against both on January 15 and they were summoned by the Court for February 9 in this case. When the court of JMIC Faridkot had issued arrest warrants (bailable) against Saini as he had not appeared before the court as per the summon orders issued to him.

Both the men are also accused of fake encounters of the Sikhs during militancy in Punjab.
