BJP workers desecrate ‘Nishan Sahib’ with shoes, burn it on road amid sloganeering

NEW DELHI—A handful of persons who are reportedly BJP workers have desecrated sacred ‘Nishan Sahib’ (Khalsa flag usually hoisted on the premises of Gurdwaras) with their shoes on the middle of the road and burnt it while raising hateful slogans, two days after the angry farmers hoisted the Nishan Sahib atop the Red Fort of Delhi without touching tricolour flag and hurting anybody’s sentiments.

A video of this has gone viral and hurt the sentiments of the Sikhs across the world. The whole community has demanded stringent action against those responsible for the desecration. All the peace and harmony loving people have condemned this hateful act, which can fuel communal violence.

Taking serious note of this incident, former Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president and founder of Jago party Manjit Singh GK lodged a formal complaint in the Police station of Parliament area of New Delhi and cyber cell of the Delhi Police seeking exemplary punishment to these elements.

The guilty reportedly belong to Haryana, and local Sangat has identified them. Now, they are apologizing to them for this sacrilege.

Speaking to the media, GK said, “If persons so hated the flag, they should have objected to Punjab tableau displayed during the Republic Day parade from Rashtrapati Bhawan to India Gate at New Delhi as two Nishan Sahib were hoisted on this tableau.”
