Portraits of first martyrs of Gurdwara Reform Movement to be put up at Central Sikh Museum

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Jagir ‘Kaur’ on Tuesday chaired a meeting with the Dharam Prachar Committee of SGPC at the headquarters here to discuss the coming Sikh centenary events, besides introducing a resolution of putting up first martyrs of Gurdwara Sudhar Lehar (Gurdwara Reform Movement) in Central Sikh Museum at Sri Harmandar Sahib.

Giving information about the meeting, she said that the Dharam Prachar Committee will organize events dedicated to the centenaries in Punjab as well as across the country. She said on the occasion of the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, a special program would be organized at the shrines related to Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib in the country.

She said that apart from this, under the Dharam Prachar Lehar (movement), pracharaks (preacher), kavishars (poetry reciter) and dhadi jathas (ballad singing groups) will reach out to the village level to spread the life history of Guru Sahib Ji. In schools and colleges, children will be made aware of the life and philosophy of Guru Sahib.

The SGPC president said that similarly various events would be held in the memory of the martyrs of Gurdwara Reform Movement dedicated to the centenary day of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and centenary day of Saka Sri Nankana Sahib.

She said that Gurmat Samagam would be held on January 27 and 28 in Aldinpur villager of Tarn Taran in memory of Baba Hazara Singh and Baba Hukam Singh, the first martyrs of Gurdwara Reform Movement and approved portraits of these two martyrs will soon be housed in the Central Sikh Museum.

Apart from SGPC president, chief secretary advocate Harjinder Singh, and key members of SGPC and Dharam Prachar Committee were present in the meeting.
