CHANDIGARH, Punjab—In protest of the false FIR against farmers for dumping cattle dung at the entrance of BJP leader Tikshan Sood’s house, hundreds of farmers staged protest outside the District Administrative Complex of Hoshiarpur on January 4. Notably, the Hoshiarpur police had charged the protesting farmers with attempt to murder.
Finding no way out, SSP Navjot Singh Mahal held a meeting with the farmers in which 15-member joint struggle committee formed by various farmer organizations pursued talk on behalf of farmers.
In this meeting, the Hoshiarpur police agreed to cancel false FIR registered against the protesting farmers.
Later, SP Raminder Singh, Tanda DSP Daljit Singh Khakh and DSP Gurpreet Singh Gill reached on site of protest along with farmer leaders and announced to cancel FIR.
Earlier, farmers demanded immediate cancellation of the FIR lodged by the district police under pressure from the BJP. They said their protest would continue till their demand was met. They said a case should be registered against Sood for abusing and threatening them.
