Prof. Devender Pal Bhullar’s mother Mata Upkar Kaur passes away

NEW YORK, USA—Mata Upkar Kaur, mother of political Sikh prisoner Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar, has passed away today. She was living with his younger son Tejenderpal Singh Bhullar in the United States of America and was not keeping well for long.

Mata Upkar Kaur has left this world while enduring state excesses for almost three decades.

In December-1991, Mata Upkar Kaur’s husband Balwant Singh Bhullar was abducted by the Punjab police from their residence in village Dyalpura Bhaika (Bathinda) and he never came back. As per an estimate, he was extra-judicially eliminated by the Punjab police cops.

S. Balwant Singh Bhullar was a senior auditor in the Audit Department of the Punjab Government at Chandigarh.

In April 2020, Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar was released on parole lfor 42 days by the Central Jail of Amritsar authorities.

It is noteworthy here that the Supreme Court of India had directed the state governments to release under trial prisoners and convicts in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
