MOGA, Punjab—Giani Mohan Singh Bhindranwale, who was the root sect head of Damdami Taksal situated in village Bhinder Kalan of Moga, has passed away today. He was 101 years old.
During his whole life, Giani Mohan Singh served the Khalsa Panth by encouraging the common masses to adopt Sikh values in their lives. Thousands of common masses became Amritdhari after being encouraged by him and learned the accurate recitation of Gurbani scriptures from him.
It is pertinent to note here that the Damdami Taksal had bifurcated after the death of Sant Gurbachan Singh Bhindranwale. A section of Damdami Taksal including the family of Sant Gurbachan Singh Bhindranwale had endorsed Giani Mohan Singh as the next head of Damdami Taksal while another section was supporting Sant Kartar Singh.
During the Antim Ardas of Sant Gurbachan Singh, Giani Mohan Singh was given the Dastaar to head Damdami Taksal.
After this, Sant Kartar Singh established his sect at Chowk Mehta and got actively involved in Sikh affairs. Due to Sant Kartar Singh’s Gurbani parchar and amrit sanchars, within a short time period, his Jatha got into the limelight
Sant Kartar Singh’s successor Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale emerged as the great Sikh of the 20th century. At present, the Chowk Mehta based sect of Damdami Taksal, has further trifurcated.
