It is pertinent to note here that the Damdami Taksal had bifurcated after the death of Sant Gurbachan Singh Bhindranwale. A section of Damdami Taksal including the family of Sant Gurbachan Singh Bhindranwale had endorsed Giani Mohan Singh as the next head of Damdami Taksal while another section was supporting Sant Kartar Singh.

During the Antim Ardas of Sant Gurbachan Singh, Giani Mohan Singh was given the Dastaar to head Damdami Taksal.
