CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Referring to the opening of the sacred gurdwara at Kartarpur Sahib to the devotees by the Imran Khan government, the Dal Khalsa wrote a letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reciprocate Pakistan and allow the Sikhs direct access to the shrine via the corridor.
The letter sent to Prime Minister through email by the Dal Khalsa is in consonance with the resolution adopted at a function organized by Dal Khalsa and presided by Former Jathedar Akal Takht Joginder Singh Vedanti at the India vantage point for going to Kartarpur Sahib pilgrimage to commemorate the first anniversary of the Kartarpur corridor on Nov 9.
The copies of the letter written by party spokesman Kanwar Pal Singh have also been sent to the ministry of home and external affairs.
He said there has been marked change for the better in public life during the last few months and added that all the major shrines that were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic are now open.
The recent Assembly election in Bihar is an example of the socio-political-economic life returning to normal, he said and added that the Sikhs feel being discriminated against. This is the context of the Kartarpur Sahib shrine that has been opened to the devotees by Pakistan but awaits reciprocal arrangement from India.
The Kartarpur Sahib Corridor that is virtually free access from the Indian side was viewed at the global level as a Corridor of peace, harmony, and bonds, reads the letter.
The letter urges the government to take effective steps to reopen the historic pilgrims’ pathway prior to the Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak Sahib on November 30 and allow the pilgrims to cross over to pay obeisance at the historic Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur.
