Indian Government Constitutes Committee to celebrate 400th Parkash Purab of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji

NEW DELHI, India—The office of the Indian Home Ministry has constituted a high level committee (HLC) to celebrate the 400th Parkash Purab of the ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. The Indian PM Narendra Modi has been appointed as a chairman of this committee while Lok Sabha’s speaker Sh. Om Birla, former Indian PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari have been nominated as its members.

“To commemorate the 400th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji in a befitting manner, a High Level Committee is constituted by the Government of India…,” reads the notification released by Indian Home Ministry.

It is pertinent to note here that the 400th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji will be celebrated on April 18 next year. The Punjab government has already announced year-long celebrations of Guru Sahib’s 400th Parkash Purab.

The Hindu community exists today due to the sacrifices made by Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, and his three Sikhs Bhai Mati Das Ji, Bhai Sati Das Ji and Bhai Dyala Ji.

Guru Sahib had challenged the then Mughal ruler Aurangzeb’s act of forcing Hindus to embrace Islam by standing as an iconic figure against forceful conversions and oppression of disciples of other religions.
