Akal Takht Sahib Honours the Life of Baba Bir Singh Who was Unfortunately Martyred by the Sikh Army in 1844

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—On October 10, a religious program was held at the supreme Sikh throne Sri Akal Takht Sahib to remorse for the unfortunate martyrdom of Baba Bir Singh Naurangabad. Notably, the Sikh army had martyred Baba Bir Singh Naurangabad near Sabhrawan at the behest of the Dogras in 1844, i.e. after the demise of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

In this program, Hazoori Raagi Jatha of Bhai Kuldeep Singh performed Gurbani Kirtan following the culmination of Sri Akhand Path Sahib.

Addressing the sangat on this occasion, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh said that the Sikhs have unfortunately played in the hands of enemies many times. “Following the death of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the British rulers used Dogras to take over Sikh emperor due to which a great Sikh, Baba Bir Singh Naurangabad, got martyred by the Sikh army,” he said.

Giani Harpreet Singh added that some anti-Sikh powers were still active to bifurcate Sikhs.

Giani Harpreet Singh made a special appeal to the Sikhs to unite on a common platform and never indulge in internecine killings. He also raised questions over the ignorance of the Punjabi language in Jammu & Kashmir and Rajasthan.

Takht Sri Damdama Sahib’s Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, former Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode, and Baba Jagjit Singh Harkhowal also spoke on this occasion.
