Sikh Intellectuals Denounce Decision Against Dhadrianwala by Akal Takht Sahib acting Jathedar

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The Sikh Vichar Manch, comprising of eminent personalities like Sikh intellectual Gurtej Singh (IAS) and journalist Jaspal Singh Sidhu, has termed SGPC appointed interim Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh’s call for boycotting religious programs of Sikh preacher Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwala as a one-sided move.

In a press note shared with Sikh24, various eminent Sikh personalities working under the banner of Sikh Vichar Manch have opposed this decision by stating that the bias in this edict is prominent.

“Giani Harpreet Singh’s decision has increased division between the Sikh seminaries having an influence of traditional Vedant ideology and Sikh missionary preachers. We fear that this is an attempt to instigate violent clash between the Sikhs like Shia and Sunni sects of Muslims,” they remarked.

“It is unfortunate that we are giving a chance to the anti-Sikh powers to divide Sikhs just because the traditional Sikh seminaries and missionary preachers have different systems of illustrating Gurbani verses. The Singh Sahibans should sort out these issues in the light of Gurmat principles while taking into consideration the sentiments of the entire Sikh community so that the supremacy of Sri Akal Takht Sahib could be retained,” the press note reads.

Comments on Printing of Guru Granth Sahib Saroops

Sikh Vichar Manch has also demanded that a certified digital copy of the holy saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji should be prepared by codifying it as per original form and worldwide Sikhs should be permitted to respectfully print this saroop.

This statement has come after Canada based non-profit Satnam Trust published a saroop of Guru Granth Sahib this past month. Satnam Trust was previously authorized by the SGPC for printing saroops under the presidency of Avtar Singh Makkar and later Prof. Kirpan Singh Bagungar, however, the SGPC and Akal Takht Sahib have seemed to have taken a u-turn on the earlier authorization.

Gurtej Singh IAS, Journalist Jaspal Singh Sidhu, Journalist Sukhdev Singh, Gurbachan Singh (Editor of Des Punjab), Bhinder Singh, Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Rajinder Singh (Khalsa Panchayat), Ajaypal Singh Brar, Prof. Manjit Singh, Gurpreet Singh (President of Global Sikh Council and Khushal Singh have accorded this statement.
