CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Although the SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh refrained from attending the inauguration ceremony of Ram Mandir keeping in view the Sikh sentiments, the Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal and his wife Harsimrat Badal has openly congratulated the Hindu community of India while terming it as a historic day.
It is noteworthy here that the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has specially appointed Giani Harpreet Singh as Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to reinstate the party’s “goodwill” among Sikhs. Since his appointment, Giani Harpreet Singh has given very daring statements including demand for a ban on RSS activities in the state.
When asked by journalists about why he did not attend the ceremony in Ayodhya, Giani Harpreet Singh stated that he did not even care to open the invite.
Giani Harpreet Singh was installed as the interim Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib by the Akali Dal (B) and the SGPC after Giani Gurbachan Singh resigned from the post citing health reasons. Meanwhile, a huge section of the Sikh community had discharged all SGPC appointed Jathedars of Takhts while installing Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara as the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib and Bhai Dhian Singh Mand as his acting-jathedar.

Giani Harpreet Singh has always pretended to be rational towards the Sikh issues but recently he manifested biased behavior when a journalist questioned him about Veerpal Insaan’s statement against Sukhbir Badal. He straight-forwardly refused to comment on it while terming the issue as rubbish. Veerpal, a Sirsa dera supporter, had alleged that the robe worn by Gurmeet Ram Rahim in 2007 was gifted by Sukhbir Badal.
Although, Takht Jathedars kept mum on Ram Mandir’s ground-breaking ceremony to save themselves from the Sikh ire, Sukhbir Badal’s inclined Facebook post towards Hindus, has once again exposed RSS’ influence on SAD (Badal).
