Statement by Granthi Singh After 300 Armed Goons from “Jhotha Sauda” Attack Gurdwara Sahib in Patiala

PATIALA, Punjab—News of the attack on Gurdwara Sahib in Satrana of village Chunagra of District Patran in Patiala came to the limelight on July 26 when over 300 armed followers of Dera Sirsa (Jhotha Sauda) attacked the Gurdwara.

Bhai Jeevan Singh, the main sevadar of the Gurdwara Sahib gave the following statement following the attack –

The incident took place on July 26 when we had just completed the work of leveling the ground on a portion of the land. Upon completion of the work, over 300 attackers pounded upon on. They were carrying sharp edge weapons. At that time, there were about 60 some Gurdwara Sahib sevadars.

The land belongs to a Government school and a portion of it was kept reserved for building a Gurdwara Sahib here. Finally in 2016, when the Gurdwara was built, dera followers objected. A large portion of the village here follows the dera and hence they were against building a Gurdwara Sahib.

Dera followers allege that the Gurdwara Sahib is built on the school land, however, the land is officially registered in the name of the Gurdwara.

Since 2016, there have been a number of attacks on the Sikhs.

Yesterday, several of the Sikhs were attacked and were left badly injured. Bricks were thrown on the Gurdwara sahib building as well as the Nishan Sahib.
