CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Following SGPC’s request to get the issue of 267 missing holy saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji probed by an independent Sikh judge or another personality, the Akal Takht authorities sent a team to seal the records of SGPC’s publication wing at Gurdwara Ramsar Sahib on July 14. All this record was sealed in the presence of SGPC appointed Akal Takht’s additional head granthi Giani Malkiat Singh as well as employees of the SGPC’s publication department.
Sharing the development with media, Akal Takht Secretariat official Jaspal Singh informed that all the record about holy saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji from April 1, 2015 to till date has been sealed.
It is noteworthy here that the SGPC has already shifted the publication and binding wing officials and staff members, including supervisors, secretary, deputy secretary and additional secretary, so that the inquiry was not influenced.
It is pertinent to note here that 267 saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji have been found missing from the SGPC’s publication department. The incident came to fore when assistant supervisor Kanwaljit Singh got retired in May this year.
Kanwaljit Singh has claimed that he was forced to issue holy saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji without making entries in the record books. He has also claimed that more than 80 holy saroops got burnt in fire incident occurred at Gurdwara Ramsar Sahib in May-2016 while the SGPC disclosed damage of only 14.
However, the SGPC is accusing Kanwaljit Singh of negligence in his duties, but the SGPC’s accusation comes under suspicion because the latter is ready to let go Kanwaljit Singh just by recovering the cost of missing saroops.
Last month, Amritsar Police Commissioner Sukhchain Singh Gill had also marked an inquiry into this incident to the Deputy Commissioner of Police on the complaint of Kanwaljit Singh.
