SIT arrests former Kotkapura SHO for tampering evidences of Kotkapura firing incident

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—On June 25, the Special Investigation Team constituted to crack sacrilege cases arrested the former Kotkapura SHO Gurdeep Singh Pandher for tampering evidences of Kotkapura firing incident and breaching trust. Interestingly, this case was registered in Kotkapura police station under section 307 and 353 of IPC along with several sections of Arms Act on the complaint of Gurdeep Singh Pandher himself on October 14, 2015.

It is noteworthy here that several innocent Sikhs were implicated by GS Pandher in this case.

In this case, Gurdeep Singh Pandher had tried to justify the firing opened on peacefully protesting Sikhs while accusing them of launching attack on police party and damaging public property. Pandher had tried to pretend that the police party opened fire in self-defense.

Pandher had made an entry in the malkhana record regarding the deposit of 10 empty cartridges, however these were never deposited.

After arresting Pandher, the SIT presented him before the Court and succeeded in securing his one-day remand.

Earlier in January this year, Pandher along with former SAD MLA Mantar Singh Brar and then Kotkapura DSP Baljit Singh, had got bail in the firing case registered at Kotkapura on August 7, 2018.
