Kashmiri Sikh leader Janak Singh Sodhi passes away

SRINAGAR, J&K—Renowned Kashmiri Sikh leader Janak Singh Sodhi passed away on May 31 following a brief illness. He was getting medical treatment in a local hospital of Srinagar from the past few days.

Janak Singh remained active in the Kashmiri politics after getting allied with National Conference for a long time. He also spearheaded the Baramulla’s Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee several times.

His mortal remains were today consigned to flames in a local crematorium amid the presence of hundreds of local Sikhs. 

Meanwhile, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal has condoled Janak Singh Sodhi’s demise by terming it as a big loss for the Kashmiri Sikhs.

SGPC’s chief secretary Dr. Roop Singh has said that Janak Singh Sodhi remained continuously active for the preachment of Sikhism in Jammu & Kashmir.
