VIDEO: Former IAS officer reveals how Politician-Police nexus operate for Indian state

:dateline:This is a short talk by Gurtej Singh, a former IAS officer and former Professor of Sikhism, on the present situation created by the FIR on Ex-DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and the expectations of justice it has aroused in the minds of the Punjabis in India and abroad.

The underlying premise of the Sikh theory of polity is that the Earth belongs to the “Good” and has been abducted by “evil people” M5 “Kabir dharti sadh ki taskar baise gah”. For the spiritual and material welfare of all creation, its control must be wrested from thieves and restored to those who will organize it for the welfare of all. This task is entrusted to the Khalsa.

The Khalsa has to devise ways and means of affecting this transfer of power. It must not remain bogged down by the description of the evil deeds of the abductors. Neither must it expect any mercy or justice from the depraved. It must strive by all legitimate means to capture power wherever the Khalsa can. The ultimate aim is to seat the Just Divine (adli prabhu) on the throne of Justice.

The tragedy of Punjab has become alive again. Everytime some slight possibility of justice stirs up the calm waters of our rivers, expectations of our people rise sky high. It is great that the Sikhs revere justice at par with divinity and seek it fervently. The bad part is that their idealism blinds them to reality. The Indian polity, more now than ever, is so attuned to injustice that it holds no prospect of fair play for the marginalized majority. The way of assuring justice is to grab the opportunity of becoming powerful in representative institutions. It is then that the hapless masses will be able to tilt the scales in favour of justice. To do this is also a spiritual undertaking by the Sikhs because Justice is an attribute of Akalpurakh and must prevail.
