Supreme Court rejects Sajjan Kumar’s interim bail plea

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The Supreme Court of India has rejected the bail plea of the 1984 Sikh genocide culprit Sajjan Kumar. Notably, Sajjan Kumar is languishing in Tihar jail since December 31, 2018 after being awarded life imprisonment by the Delhi High Court.

Rejecting Sajjan Kumar’s bail plea, Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde said that the examination report of Sajjan Kumar depicts that he doesn’t need to be hospitalized.

Media reports reveal that the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta opposed Sajjan Kumar’s bail plea while saying that it was a case of genocide and he was leading a mob. In this way, an Indian government official admitted that the Sikhs were subjected to genocide in November, 1984.

“We don’t want to take any decision on Sajjan Kumar’s bail plea at the moment,” SC bench told his lawyer Vikas Singh.

The SC bench also refused to grant parole to Balwan Khokhar and Mahender Yadav who are serving life imprisonment and 10-year imprisonment respectively.

It may be recalled here that Sajjan Kumar had sought interim bail citing his “poor health conditions”. The SC had constituted a panel of doctors to examine Sajjan Kumar.

  1. He should rot in jail until his last breath, no bail application should be considered now or any time. He’s committed the crimes now pay the price.
