SGPC honors whistle blowers of Amritsar sacrilege

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—The apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee today honored Municipal Corporation’s employees Gurdeep Singh and Varinder Singh for bringing forth the sacrilege of five Gutka Sahibs and other religious manuscripts in Amritsar. Notably, Gurdeep Singh works as a driver while Varinder Singh works as an assistant.

SGPC’s senior vice president Rajinder Singh Mehta and chief secretary Dr. Roop Singh honored Gurdeep Singh and Varinder Singh with a cash reward of INR 21,000 and 11,000 respectively along with Sirpaos and portraits of Sri Harmandir Sahib.

SGPC secretary Manjit Singh Bath, additional secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhoora Kohna and additional manager Rajinder Singh Ruby were also present on this occasion.

On May 3, a family resident of Adarsh Nagar (Kot Khalsa, Amritsar) had thrown a bag containing five Gutka Sahibs and one Sainchi in the garbage, but the Municipal Corporation’s employee Gurdeep Singh had succeeded in shunting it out while dropping the garbage at dump spot on Jhabal road. Later, they had handed over bag to Gurdwara Singh Sabha situated Guru Nanakpura near Putlighar.

Four persons namely Mangal Singh, Tejinder Singh, Parminder Singh and Nishan Singh were arrested for committing this sacrilege.
