Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar released on parole for 42 days

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Political Sikh prisoner Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar has been released on parole last evening for 42 days by the Central Jail of Amritsar authorities. Notably, Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar is serving a life sentence in the bomb blast case pertaining to Delhi.

Sharing the development with Sikh24, Bibi Navneet Kaur Bhullar informed that her husband Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar was under ailment due to schizophrenia at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital of Amritsar. She added that Prof. Bhullar has been released on parole for 11 times earlier.

“Now, every common citizen of India has come across the mental pain of isolation within 15 days of lockdown due to coronavirus. So, you can understand the condition of a person who remained isolated for more than two decades,” she said while demanding permanent release of Prof. Bhullar.  

It is noteworthy here that the Supreme Court of India had directed the state governments to release under trial prisoners and convicts in the wake of coronavirus outbreak. However, the Punjab Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa had clarified that the Supreme Court’s directive didn’t ask states to release political Sikh prisoners and they can release political Sikh prisoners only at the behest of Supreme Court or Union government of India. 

Speaking to Sikh24, Bibi Navneet Kaur Bhullar has clarified that this is not a usual parole. “The administration might have considered the risk factor of keeping Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhular confined at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital during this pandemic,” she added.
