SGPC asks India to take up the security issue of Afghan Sikhs to UNO

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal has expressed deep concern over the continuous targeting of Sikhs in Afghanistan by the Islamic State. Longowal’s statement has come in a response to the threats being passed to Afghan Sikhs following the brutal murder of more than two dozen Sikhs in Kabul’s Gurdwara Sri Guru Har Rai Ji on March 25.

He has appealed the Afghanistan government to take solid steps to ensure security of a few hundred Sikhs left in Afghanistan. “The Sikh community has always contributed a lot towards the development of countries wherever they moved so the Afghanistan government should also take this fact into consideration,” he added.

Longowal has also asked the Indian government to take up this issue before UNO.

He also informed that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee has already announced financial help worth INR 1,00,000/- and INR 50,000/- to the families of deceased and injured Afghan Sikhs respectively.
