SGPC Takes Precautions to Stop The Spread of Coronavirus

:dateline:Despite there being a large coronavirus scare, Sikhs have continued to arrive at Sri Harmandir Sahib and other historical Gurdwaras across Punjab in large numbers. Just today, a large number of devotees reached Sri Harmandir Sahib to pay obeisance but the number of foreign-based Sikhs was limited.

SGPC Is Taking Precautions But Will Keep Gurdwaras Open

“If the sangat wishes to visit Gurdwaras, they can but if they want to stay home, it’s up to them,” said SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal. He said the SGPC is in touch with Government officials and will follow their guidance before making any announcements. He condemned the Government of India for temporarily closing the Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib corridor situated in Pakistan.

While speaking with Sikh24, Longowal said that Sri Kartarpur Sahib corridor is connected with the sentiments and hopes of Sikh Panth and devotees who want to pay obeisance by visiting there, they should be allowed by the the Central Government.

Meanwhile, free sanitizer service for hand wash for the safety from coronavirus for the million of devotees, who are visiting at Sri Harmandir Sahib, has been started through all the five entrance gates.

At the same time, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal has ordered to make the arrangements for paper napkins instead of towels. Napkins are now being used by devotees.

Longowal said that he has also given instructions to the managers of all Gurdwara Sahibs to keep cleanliness and use precaution for safety purpose. He further said that a proposal for providing emergency medical services is also under consideration.
