2020’s Surrey Vaisakhi Parade cancelled due to coronavirus outbreak

SURREY, Canada—Amid global coronavirus outbreak, the annual Vaisakhi Parade of Surrey has been cancelled as a precautionary measure. Notably, this year’s Vaisakhi Parade was scheduled to be carried out on April 25 in Surrey.

Sharing the development with media, a leading organizer Moninder Singh informed that the step has been taken to avoid all risk to public safety and health. He added that deciding to cancel this event was not an easy job as there is a lot of emotional, religious and cultural attachment among Sikh diaspora towards this event.

He further informed that this decision can be revoked if this pandemic is controlled by time, but for the time being we have decided to cancel it.

It is noteworthy here that tens of thousands of common Sikhs participate in this parade every year. In 2019, the parade had witnessed participation of more than 5,00,000 people crowding the streets of Surrey.
