:dateline:In an unexpected move, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has filed an intervention application in the Supreme Court of India over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). On March 2, the UN High Commissioner�s office intimated India�s Permanent Mission in Geneva over the move.
The Indian government has strongly reacted to UN Human Rights chief�s move by saying that the CAA was India�s internal matter and the application was an attempt to challenge the Indian Parliament�s sovereignty to make laws.
However, it is unclear that whether the Supreme Court will accept the UN Human Rights chief�s intervention plea or not.
An Indian government official has disclosed that it was for the Supreme Court to accept or reject this intervention application.�
