:dateline:The Supreme Court is going to take up bail plea of the 1984 Sikh genocide culprit Sajjan Kumar tomorrow, i.e. on March 4. An SC bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde today accepted Sajjan Kumars plea after the Sajjan Kumars legal counsel sought an immediate hearing on health grounds.
This is a consecutively second decision of Supreme Court in favor of Sajjan Kumar. Yesterday, the SC had refused to accept the plea of SIT seeking an early hearing of its petition challenging the anticipatory bail granted to Sajjan Kumar in 2018 in another 1984 Sikh genocide case by the Delhi High Court.
On February 14, the Supreme Court of India had deferred hearing on Sajjan Kumar bail plea to summer vacations.
Sajjan Kumars lawyer Vikas Singh had claimed before the SC bench that his client had lost 13 kgs and needed to be attended by a private doctor. He had also handed over a sealed medical report on Kumars health to the court.
Sajjan Kumar has been in Tihar jail since December 31, 2018 after being awarded life imprisonment by the Delhi High Court.
