SGPC criticizes Punjab Police for harassing pilgrims returning back from Kartarpur

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee has sought action against the police officers who are harassing pilgrims returning back after paying obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib, Pakistan.

SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal has said that it is a very bad routine which has panicked the pilgrims and it can affect the corridor if it is not stopped immediately.

Longowal said that this practice of Punjab government seems an intentional step to bring the people of Punjab under suspicion due to which they are feeling alienated. “This corridor has opened after seven decades long prayers of Sikh community but some people are not liking this,” he added.

He said that the Punjab government has cleared its negative intentions about corridor by harassing the pilgrims and it seems that the Punjab government wants the corridor get closed.

“It is not fair to doubt on the pilgrims who go for paying obeisance because every pilgrim  goes through screening by police cops before going to Kartarpur Sahib. If Police does not trust its own screening procedure then what is the meaning of this screening,” Longowal said.
