US Air Force changes dress code to ease entry of Sikhs and Muslims

NEW YORK, USA—The US Air Force has made changes in the dress code keeping in view the religious sentiments of various communities, including Sikhs, so that persons related to these communities could join the Air Force without any problem. The new US Air Force policy was finalized on February 7, 2020.
Sikh Coalition, a civil rights organization in the United States, said that now American Sikhs won’t have to choose anyone from their religious beliefs or career as they would be able to serve in US Air Force while adhering to their religious beliefs. 
 
According to Sikh Coalition, this policy change in the US Air Force is the result of a campaign being run by it since 2009. 
 
Staff Attorney of Sikh  Coalition G. Clapper said that Sikhs are serving in armies of different countries all over the world and we hope that they will now contribute with their services in the US Armed Forces with full respect.
 

The apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee has appreciated the changes made by US Air Force in its dress code keeping in view the religious sentiments of Sikhs and other communities.

SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal has said that USA’s move will also provide relief to various other religions besides Sikhs in America.
