Tournament for first Sikh Football Cup begins in Amritsar

:dateline:On January 30, a tournament for the first Sikh Football Cup began in Khalsa College’s ground in Amritsar with an opening match between Amritsar and Faridkot. The Amritsar team defeated Faridkot by 3-0.

Giani Raghbir Singh, the Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, hailed Khalsa Football Club for taking an initiative to promote Sikh players. He urged the players to continue wearing their original Sikh attire and promote Sikhism globally.

Interacting with media, KFC head Harjit Singh Grewal informed that 20 players will be selected from this tournament to compete at the state, national and international levels. “We are following FIFA norms in this tournament so that these players could be given an exposure to the international environment,” he added. �

He further informed that they are planning to organize regional football tournament in north India and girls, too, will be included from the next year.

It is noteworthy here that this tournament is being organized jointly by Khalsa Football Club (KFC) and Global Sikh Sports Federation.

Sant Kapoor Singh Saneran Wale; Panj Pyaras from Akal Takht; Additional Sessions Judge, Jalandhar, Hira Singh Gill; GNDU’s Sports Director Sukdev Singh, Khalsa College’s Principal Mehal Singh, and Olympian Harcharan Singh were present at the occasion.
