Captain orders to shift statues of folk dancers from Heritage Walk Street

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Bowing before the struggle by Sikh activists, the Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has directed the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs to relocate the statues of folk dancers installed on Heritage Walk Street leading to Sri Harmandir Sahib. It is learnt that the concerned department has been asked to install these statues at some other appropriate location in the holy city.

It has come to fore that the Punjab CM has also directed the DGP Dinkar Gupta to review the case registered against seven Sikh youths who had tried to demolish these statues and drop stringent sections of IPC from the FIR registered against them.

It may be recalled here that seven Sikh youths had tried to demolish the statues of folk dancers installed on Heritage Walk Street leading to Sri Harmandir Sahib on January 15. All of them were booked under sections 307, 434, 427, 353, 186, 148 and 149 of Indian Penal Code and section 3 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.

Following this, the Akal Takht, SGPC, Shiromani Raagi Sabha, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Shiromani Dhadi Sabha and several other Sikh bodies had come out in support of these Sikh youths while seeking removal of these statues.
