Start Langar of medicines to serve suffering humanity, Phoolka asks Akal Takht Jathedar

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—On January 1, renowned advocate HS Phoolka submitted a memorandum to the acting Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh seeking launch of free weekly clinics in Sikh shrines so that the needy and meek people could get some relief from day by day rising commercialization of healthcare in India.

He has advised Akal Takht Jathedar to launch this pro-humanity service as per the concept of langar in Sikhism and name these new dispensaries as “Medicine Langar”.

It is pertinent to note here that HS Phoolka had launched a free mobile dispensary service in Dakha constituency when he serving as a legislator there. Phoolka’s mobile dispensary is helping people of 21 villages of the Dakha constituency. Every day, it visits at least four villages and gives free medicines to about 200 patients.

Terming this kind of pro-humanity service as a need of hour, Phoolka has said that he has prepared a module for low-cost clinics that can be started across the state, especially in rural areas, to serve the suffering humanity.

“Scores of people can’t get facility of modernized hospitals in urban areas due to shortage of money, so mobile dispensaries should be started to help them in tackling physical illness,” Phoolka said.

Meanwhile, Giani Harpreet Singh has said that the SGPC is already providing medical facilities in some Sikh shrines like Takht Sri Damdama Sahib but still Phoolka’s suggestion is good and will be considered.

  1. Good thought. It will be even better if free natural and holistic alternative therapies like Auricular therapy, Sujok, Ayurvedic acupressure treatments langer can be arranged as these therapies are very effective to treat most of the illnesses and doesn’t require any conventional medicine therefore cost less overall. Also Auricular Acupuncture has proven to be very effective in treating drug addiction, alcohol addiction and smoking/ tobacco addiction; which is a major problem in Punjab these days 🙏
