:dateline:Merely 10 days after a racial attack on an Uber Sikh driver in Washington, another such incident of hate crime against Sikhs has come to fore in California. A Sikh taxi driver named Baljeet Singh Sidhu was brutally assaulted and hit with a barbeque grill cover on the head in front of his house in California on December 15.
Sharing the details with media, Baljeet Singh Sidhu informed that he works as a mail carrier and an Uber driver in California. “When I was parking my car in my home near Hilltop Mall, Richmond, California on December 15, a man came up to my car and demanded lighter but I couldn’t fulfill his demand as I didn’t have lighter, after which he left,” he said while adding that the assaulter again came back to him demanding ride against the $5 he had.
“As it looked suspicious, I again said no to him by saying that my shift was over,” informed Baljeet Singh Sidhu.
He further informed that the man again came back with a barbeque grill cover and hit him repeatedly leaving many cuts, bumps and bruises.
Baljeet Singh’s family believes the attack to be a hate crime and he was assaulted because of his Sikh turban and appearance.
His daughter, Gaganjot Sidhu said, His turban was off and blood all over his face.
No slurs were used, no money was robbed, but Gaganjot says her father was targeted because of how he looks.
