US Senate passes resolution hailing contribution of Sikhs in development of America

WASHINGTON, USA—The USA Senate has recognized the historic 550th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji by passing a resolution unanimously. It is the first time that this kind of resolution has been passed by the American Senate. The contribution of Sikhs in  the development of America has also been praised in this resolution.

This resolution was presented by Todd Young, a Republican Senator from Indiana, and Democratic Senator Ben Cardin from Maryland. It has been stated in this resolution that Sikhs have played a significant role in the development of whole world, including the America, while following the teachings of equality, service and devotion to God taught by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

American Senate has also mentioned the names of four Sikhs in this resolution who contributed for America. The names of those Sikhs are: Daleep Singh Saund, who was the first Asian Parliament member elected in 1957, Dr. Narinder Kapani, who invented fiber optics, Didar Singh Bains, the largest grower of peaches in America and Gurinder Singh Khalsa, winner of the prestigious Rosa Parks Trailblazer Award.

The names of Sikh women Satnam Kaur, Grammy Award winning Artist, Gursoch Kaur, officer of the New York Police Department and Supreet Kaur, professor of Berkeley of University of California, have also been mentioned in this resolution who contributed for the development of country.

Meanwhile, the American Sikhs have welcomed and thanked the resolution passed by the country’s senate. A similar resolution is likely to be passed soon by the House of Representatives in US parliament.
