:dateline:A Delhi based jatha of more than 140 Sikhs was reportedly barred from visiting Gurdwara Gyan Godrhi Sahib situated at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar on November 9. This Sikh jatha, headed by Gurcharan Singh Babbar, was going to celebrate Guru Nanak Sahibs 550th Parkash Purab there.
Speaking to media, Gurcharan Singh Babbar informed that the heavy police force headed by SP Navneet Kumar and circle officer Dheerendra Kumar stopped them from entering Uttarakhand when they were partaking langar in Purkazi town. The police cops stopped us as they suspected a clash between us and the priest community which is illegally occupying the land of Gurdwara Gyan Godrhi Sahib since 1984, he added.
Gurcharan Singh Babbar informed that the police cops held them till morning hours of November 10 and at last they allowed our delegation to meet Uttarakhand Minister Madan Kaushik during the afternoon hours. Our meeting with Kaushik didnt prove fruitful and we were forced to return back to Delhi without paying obeisance at Gurdwara Gyan Godrhi Sahib, he added.
On one side, an Islamic country like Pakistan is doing more than enough for the Sikhs residing in India but on the other hand we are not being allowed to pay obeisance at our historic shrine in our own country from the last 15 years, said Gurcharan Singh Babbar who seemed quite upset over this.
