SPECIAL AWARDS: Fremont Gurdwara Launches Program for Outstanding Students

FREMONT, California, USA—Fremont Gurdwara, one of the largest Gurdwaras in California has launched a Special Awards to Outstanding Students program to mark Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 550th Gurpurab.

“Celebrating the 550th Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Gurdwara Sahib Fremont is soliciting self-nomination from Sikh Students of the Bay Area,” a press release shared by Fremont Gurdwara said.

Students qualify to self-nominate themselves for the awards give –

• Are between age 13 years and 21 years
• Resident of San Francisco Bay Area
• Have Current GPA of 3.5 and above
• Done at least 100 hours of Community Service in the recent year
• Officiated SSA or panthik organization
• Speech and Debate Team participation at zonal, state or national level
• Special case: PhD Students eligible to apply

This is the first time a program like this has been launched by the Fremont Gurdwara, although scholarships have been offered to Sikh students in past. Fremont Gurdwara Sahib provides several other programs to Sikh students, including SAT prep classes, career counselling, etc.

Jaswinder Singh Jandi, a member of the Sikh Panchayat said –

“These types of award help students not just pay for tuition, but can be used as recognization when applying for other scholarships or jobs. He said the Fremont Gurdwara also provides financial aid to students who are excelling in their studies.”
