Envoys of 84 countries pay obeisance, partake langar at Sri Harmandir Sahib

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—On the eve of the 550th birthday of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, envoys and other representatives from around 84 countries today paid obeisance at sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib. All of them were warmly welcomed and honored by the apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee.

Earlier, it was being said that these envoys and representatives will be from 90 countries, however the SGPC’s press note reveals that the group of envoys belonged to 84 countries like Australia, Mongolia, Morocco, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka etc.

Union state minister Hardeep Singh Puri and ICCR president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe were leading this group of envoys.

After paying obeisance inside sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib, these envoys learnt Sikh history from galleries built in the basement plaza.

These envoys also partook langar at Sri Guru Ram Dass Langar and paid obeisance at supreme Sikh throne Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Union state minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on this occasion that the main motive of this visit is to apprise other nationalities with message of communal harmony and global peace given by our great Sikh masters.

  1. There are positive news coming from all around be it opening of Kartarpur corridor, documentary on Guru Nanak, award to the director of the documentary, passing of resolutions by the parliaments of various countries to provide financial support for the celebration of 550th Prskash Diwas of Guru Nanak and many more that I may not be aware of.
It casts singularly a special responsibility on the Sikhs (recognised amongst thosands) to abide by the laws, rules and regulations of the country they live in to ensure that nobody gets any reason to point a finger on Sikhs. It will be true adherence to the philosophy of the Great Guru Guru Nanak.
