Giani Pooran Singh, who once floated controversy about martyrdom of Sant Bhindranwale, passes away

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Controversial former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Pooran Singh has passed away today.  During the June-1984 holocaust, he was serving as a Head Granthi at sanctum sanctorum Sri Harmandir Sahib.

After the June-1984’s holocaust, Giani Pooran Singh had floated controversy about the martyrdom of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale among the Sikh community by claiming that Sant Bhindranwale ran away from Sri Akal Takht Sahib on June 6.

Later, it had come to fore that Giani Pooran Singh preached this lie conforming to the policy of government agencies.

It is pertinent to note here that the Damdami Taksal also didn’t accept the martyrdom of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale for about two decades i.e. till the death of Baba Thakur Singh.

A faction of Damdami Taksal, headed by Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala, still doesn’t accept that Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale attained martyrdom during the June-1984 holocaust and prays for his high morale.

Giani Pooran Singh remained appointed as Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib in 1999 and 2000. While being on this temporal Sikh post, he had termed Khalsa as a son of Luv-Kush. During his whole life, he always remained under fire for his activities pretending to prove that Sikhism is a part of Hinduism.

Beside it, Giani Pooran Singh had even termed Parkash Badal as “Rehbar-e-Qaum”.
