:dateline:After finding himself surrounded in controversy for giving an anti-constitutional call to accept Hindi as a national language, the Indian Home Minister Amit Shah has claimed that he didn’t push for imposing Hindi language over regional languages instead he had just made request to accept Hindi as a national language. He has said that if someone wants to do politics, then it is their choice.
Clarifying his comments, he said, A child can perform, a childs proper mental growth is possible only when the child studies in mother tongue. Mother tongue does not mean Hindi. It is the language of a particular State, like Gujarati in my State. But there should be one language in the country, if someone wants to learn another language, it should be Hindi.
On September 14, the Indian Home Minister Amit Shah had given a call to make Hindi, the unifying language of India, by taking it to every individual and home and using it in every aspect of life. However, he had immediately come under fire for his statement sledgehammering peoples right to speak and preach their mother tongue.
