High Court bans use of loudspeakers from 10 pm to 6 am in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—To put control over rising noise pollution, the Punjab & Haryana High Court has banned the use of loud speakers at all religious places in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh from 10 pm to 6 am. The High Court has said that the use of loud-speakers before 6 am is totally unfair and if any management committee of religious places is found using loud speakers then it is liable for the action.

Beside it, the High Court has also made it mandatory for management committees of all religious places to get nod for using loud speakers and the volume of loud speakers should not go beyond 10 decibels.

However, the High Court has also given a relaxation of using loud speakers till 12 o’clock in the night on the eve of special occasions for 15 times in a year.

In the exam days, the management committees will have to shut the use of loud speakers before 15 days of the starting date of exam.

The High Court has directed the Police authorities of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to ensure applicability of this order.
