Gurbani Word Of The Day: tar-var

ਤਰਵਰੁ (tar-var)

Meaning: noun: Tree or the best of trees.

Quote:
chaňdan kai saňg  tar-var bigrio. so tar-var  chaňdan hoi nibrio.
The tree, which ‘ruined’ (transformed) itself by associating with the sandalwood tree, that tree became (smelled) just like the sandalwood tree. -Bhagat Kabir, Guru Granth Sahib, 1158

Message: The one who looks ‘spoilt’ and is wasting his or her time may actually be on his or her way to becoming transformed for the better, like an ordinary tree which, by staying close to the sandalwood tree, is beginning to smell like the much desired sandalwood tree.

Why should a divine-oriented person bother about what the worldly people call him or her?

Etymology: Blend of Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit taru (tree) + vara (a suffix, meaningsupreme, excellent, fine, best), hence best of trees or simply tree.
