Kirtan Competitions Begin at Amritsar Sahib; Second Audition in Talwandi Sabo Today 

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Commemorated to the 550th birthday of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the third part of Kirtan competition titled “Gavho Sachin Bani” was begun at Sri Guru Ram Dass University of Health Sciences (Walla) on June 10. More than 400 contestants of age group 16 to 25 years manifested their talent by singing Raag based Gubani Kirtan in this first audition.

Hazoori Raagi Bhai Harjot Singh Zakhmi, Prof. Ravel Singh and Hazoori Raagi Bhai Maninder Singh played the role of judge in this first phase of Kirtan competitions.

SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal said on this occasion that the first two Kirtan competitions held under title “Gavho Sachi Bani” had received a robust response from the worldwide Sikh sangat and now the third part of these competitions is being held as per the demand of Sikh sangat. “Beside manifesting their skills in Gurbani Kirtan, the contestants will also help in the propagation of Sikh heritage and Gurmat culture,” he added.

Longowal informed that the contestants will be shortlisted in four preliminary auditions during the first round and later the selected one will be taken to the final round.

He also informed that a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs will be given to the contestant standing first in these Kirtan competitions, while the other contestants standing on second and third positions will be given a cash reward of Rs. 3 lakhs and Rs. 1 lakh respectively. Apart from this, two more talented contestants will also be given a cash reward of Rs. 50,000 each.
