American Air Force Permits Sikh Airman to Perform Duty with Turban and Beard

WASHINGTON, USA—The American Air Force has allowed one of its Sikh airman to perform the service with beard, turban and long hairs, with which he has become the first active airman following proper religious code of conduct. Notably, Airman Harpreetinder Singh Bajwa had joined the Air Force in 2017 but was unable to do the duty due to martial dress code and grooming.

NBC’s report in this concern reveals that the move has come following the nomination of Bajwa, who heads the McChord Air Force Base Crew (Washington), by the American Sikh Veterans Alliance and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) as its representative.

Bajwa, who is allowed to do flying duty in the Air Force along with the beard, is now an active airman of the Air Force.

Talking about this, Mr. Bajwa said that he is very happy to receive the permission of the Air Force to do the duty along with beard i.e. according to the traditions of Sikhism.

He said that he now feels that his country has adopted Sikh traditions and he will always be grateful to his country for this.
