Kotkapura Firing Case: Punjab government gives approval to prosecute five senior Police cops

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—On June 5, the Special Investigation Team headed by ADGP Prabodh Kumar got nod from the Punjab’s Home Affairs Department for prosecuting five senior rank Police cops in Kotkapura firing case. It is learnt that the Home Affairs Department’s nod was mandatory to prosecute these five police cops namely IG Paramraj Umranangal, Ex-SSP Charanjit Sharma, SP Paramjit Singh Pannu, SP Baljit Singh Sidhu and SHO Gurdeep Singh Pandher.

Sources have informed that the Special Investigation has submitted a copy of Punjab government’s approval for prosecuting these five cops to the Court on June 6.

Sharing the detail of Court proceedings on June 6, defense lawyer Gursahib Singh Brar said that the local sessions judge of Faridkot Harpal Singh has granted an anticipatory bail to SP Paramjit Singh Pannu while the hearing on bail plea of SP Baljit Singh Sidhu has been adjourned onto June 10.

On the other hand, Ex-SSP Charanjit Sharma appeared before the court of judicial magistrate Ekta Uppal on June 6 however, IG Paramraj Umranangal didn’t appear despite orders of court. He is likely to appear before the court during the next hearing on June 10.
