:dateline:In a hate crime incident dating back to January 14 this year, a US Court of Marion County Judge Lindsay Partridge has sentenced 25-year-old Andrew Ramsey for three years. Beside it, he has been also directed to learn about the Sikh religion during this imprisonment period.
The judge ordered him to attend the local temples annual parade to learn more about the Sikh religion while saying bigotry is the result of ignorance and all of us are able to learn and benefit from cultures in our community.
Judge Partridge ruled Ramsey is required to seek drug and alcohol treatment along with mental health treatment. Judge Partridge also included restorative justice components as part of Ramseys probation, including a requirement that he obtain an awareness of Sikhism and report what he has learned to the court, reads an informative press note by the Sikh Coalition in this concern.
It may be recalled here that Andrew Ramsey had brutally thrashed Sikh clerk Harwinder Singh Dodd, who was working at a convenience store in the US State of Oregon, on being refused to give rolling papers for cigarettes without an ID.
On this, Ramsey had attacked Dodd by pulling his beard, punching him in the face, pulling him to the ground and kicking him besides spitting on him and ripping his turban off his head.
